Matthew Shugart received his Ph.D. from UC Irvine in 1988, and was a faculty member at UC San Diego before moving to Davis in 2013. His research centers on political institutions, especially electoral systems, political parties, and the role of legislatures in policy-making processes. He retired in 2020, but remains active in research, including a current project funded by the USDA to study the politics and economics of agricultural adaptation to climate change in California.  Here is a copy of his curriculum vitae.
