Congratulations on your admission to UC Davis, International Relations!

The International Relations major provides students with an extensive knowledge of foreign affairs, diplomacy, international trade, economic relations, the global economy, and so much more. The major's lower-division coursework, also known as "Preparatory Subject Matter," includes comparative politics, world and western history, economics, and social sciences. Upper-division courses are split into four tracks, Track I, Track II, Track III, and Track IV. In these tracks, students gain knowledge on a wide range of topics such as economic relations, political and security relationships, international armed conflicts, natural resources, world health, resource scarcity, and social and cultural foundations. With IR, students develop the skills they need to thrive in the the global workplace.

Our Department of Political Science academic programs are designed to give students a foundation in the mechanisms of politics and political systems at the national and international levels. All students, consistent with the research mission of UC Davis, will learn how to employ scholarly standards to assess the quality of political science research; and effectively write about political systems, processes, and theories in a rigorous manner. Our programs are excellent choices for graduate and law schools and a broad array of professional fields.
