The primary purpose of this course is to teach students how to apply "textbook" methods of quantitative analysis to real data with one of the most widely used statistical software programs employed in the social sciences, Stata.  The topics covered include: managing and preparing data, univariate and tabular analysis, bivariate and multivariate ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression, interaction effects, graphing, "collapsing" data, and merging data.  The focus of the course will be on applications rather than the mathematical underpinnings of the statistical models so an extensive background in statistics is not required.
