Travel Funding

Graduate students in the Department of Political Science may apply for funding to support travel related to their doctoral thesis research.

Three funds in the Department of Political Science help underwrite travel expenses for graduate students presenting papers at academic conferences.

  • The Charles Hardin and Emeriti Fund offers up to $500 in financial assistance to graduate students who have been invited to present papers at the annual conferences of the American Political Science Association or comparable academic associations.
  • The Department Graduate Travel Award funds up to $500 in travel expenses to advance graduate study, such as travel to a conference to present a paper.
  • The ICPSR/Essex Award offers up to $1,000 for study at a methodology summer program.

Department of Political Science policy regarding travel funding favors students who have successfully completed their second year in the program. Each student is ordinarily eligible to receive support for no more than one conference per year.
